Breastreconstruction.

Implant-based and autologous (DIEP, TRAM) breast reconstruction after mastectomy — performed by ISAPS-credentialed reconstructive surgeons, often in coordination with oncology teams in your home country.

Overview

Our reconstructive practice is a small subset of our overall surgical volume — by design. We perform DIEP, TRAM, and implant-based reconstructions; we coordinate with international oncologists via your concierge; and we provide full surgical documentation for insurance claims, which often cover reconstruction in part or whole.

The consultation

A ninety-minute video consultation with the reconstructive surgeon, with full review of your oncology history, mastectomy reports, and imaging. We will work with your oncology team to schedule reconstruction at the right point in your treatment timeline.

Our approach

Implant-based reconstruction (one- or two-stage with expander) for most patients; autologous (using your own tissue from the abdomen — DIEP or TRAM) for patients seeking the most natural result, with adequate donor tissue. We discuss honestly what each approach can and cannot deliver.

Recovery

Two nights in hospital, then ten to fourteen nights in our recovery villa with daily nursing. Autologous reconstruction requires longer recovery (fourteen+ nights) and graduated return to activity over eight weeks.

Treatments

Implant placed at the same operation as mastectomy or as a single-stage delayed reconstruction. Best for patients with adequate skin envelope and no significant radiation damage. Includes acellular dermal matrix where indicated.

Duration

2–3 hours · general anaesthetic

Recovery

10 nights on-island recovery

What's included
  • Pre-op imaging and oncology coordination
  • Theatre, anaesthetic & overnight observation
  • 7 nights in private recovery villa
  • Daily nursing visits
  • Two surgeon reviews
  • Insurance documentation pack
  • 12-month telehealth follow-up

Tissue expander placed at first operation, gradually inflated over 8–12 weeks to stretch skin, then exchanged for the permanent implant. Standard pathway for patients with radiation history or limited skin envelope. Total programme spans 4–6 months across two visits.

  • Daily nursing visits
  • Expansion appointments
  • Insurance documentation pack
  • 12-month telehealth follow-up

Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator flap — abdominal skin and fat (no muscle) transplanted to reconstruct the breast, with microsurgical reconnection of blood vessels. Most natural feel and appearance; lasts a lifetime. Technically demanding; requires microsurgical expertise.

Duration

6–8 hours · general anaesthetic

Recovery

21 nights on-island; 8 weeks to full activity

What's included
  • Microsurgical theatre time
  • Theatre, anaesthetic & two-night observation
  • 14 nights in private recovery villa
  • Daily nursing and physiotherapy
  • Lymphatic drainage sessions
  • Insurance documentation pack
  • 12-month telehealth follow-up

Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous flap — uses abdominal tissue including rectus muscle for reconstruction. Used where DIEP is not technically feasible. Reliable result; longer abdominal recovery than DIEP due to muscle harvesting.

Duration

5–7 hours · general anaesthetic

Recovery

21 nights on-island; 10 weeks to full activity

What's included
  • Theatre, anaesthetic & two-night observation
  • 14 nights in private recovery villa

Local skin flap to recreate nipple projection, with 3D medical tattooing for areolar pigmentation. Typically performed 3–6 months after main reconstruction. Local anaesthetic; same-day procedure.

Frequently asked

Often partially or fully — reconstruction after cancer is recognised by most insurers as medically necessary. We provide full surgical documentation, oncology coordination notes, and itemised invoicing in your insurer's preferred format.
Immediate reconstruction (at the time of mastectomy) is possible for some patients, but most international patients have delayed reconstruction performed after their oncology treatment is complete.
DIEP uses your own tissue and lasts a lifetime; implant-based may need replacement at 15–20 years. DIEP is technically more demanding and has longer recovery; implants are simpler initially. We choose based on your anatomy, oncology context, and life goals.
