Trauma &scar repair.

Scar revision, burn reconstruction, skin grafts, and complex flap repair — for patients seeking refinement after trauma, surgery, or burn injury.

Overview

Our reconstructive team includes a fellowship-trained burn and trauma reconstructive surgeon. We offer everything from minor scar revision under local anaesthetic to complex multi-stage flap reconstruction. We will not promise scar erasure — no surgeon honestly can — but we can almost always improve.

The consultation

Sixty-minute consultation with the reconstructive surgeon, with photography in standardised lighting and a frank discussion of what is and is not achievable. For burn or complex trauma cases, we review original surgical records before consultation.

Our approach

We sequence reconstruction in stages where helpful — most scars improve more from two refined operations spaced six months apart than from one ambitious operation. Local flap, Z-plasty, dermal substitute, and fat grafting are all part of our toolbox; we choose based on what the tissue needs.

Recovery

Most scar revision is day-case with local anaesthetic; recovery is days. Burn reconstruction and major flap surgery require general anaesthetic and ten to twenty-one nights on-island with daily nursing.

Frequently asked

No. We can almost always improve a scar's appearance — colour, texture, direction, and prominence — but a scar is by definition permanent. Honest expectation-setting is part of our consultation.
Most scars are best revised after twelve months — by which point they have fully matured. Earlier revision is sometimes appropriate for functional issues (e.g. contracture) but rarely for purely aesthetic improvement.
Sometimes — particularly for functional reconstruction after trauma or burn. Cosmetic scar revision is rarely covered. We provide documentation either way.
