Intragastric balloons and endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) — performed under sedation through the mouth, with no incisions and same-week recovery.
Overview
Endoscopic procedures are performed by our consultant gastroenterologist, with full bariatric multidisciplinary support: dietitian, behavioural health, and exercise physiology. Recovery is days, not weeks; outcomes are weeks, not minutes.
The consultation
Initial sixty-minute consult with the gastroenterologist and dietitian: medical history, weight history, BMI assessment, and pathway selection. We require a minimum BMI threshold and a stable mental-health history before proceeding.
Our approach
Intragastric balloon for patients with BMI 27–35 looking for a shorter-term intervention; endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty for patients with BMI 30–40 who want longer-lasting volumetric restriction without surgery. All procedures include twelve months of multidisciplinary follow-up.
Recovery
Same-day discharge. Three to five days of liquid then soft diet at home; back to normal activity within a week. We require seven nights on the island for follow-up imaging and the first dietitian review.
